Well guys,

I am lucky enough to live close to ECS Tuning and have the chance to test out their interior LED Kit. They contacted me and told me that they have a new kit that's even brighter than the old line-up they had..

Okay, I had some in my E46 and THEY SUCKED. They required resistors, and were less bright than the OEM bulbs. So I figured it was worth a shot.

Holy cow, these are BRIGHT! Much brighter than I anticipated. Not to mention, no resistor was needed :headbang

The pictures below show exactly the color of these bulbs, no doctoring here. It is worth the price, I suggest anyone looking to upgrade to highly consider these!

And they swapped out my grilles:

When are you coming back again? There is an autocross weekend on July 7th/8th that I'll be at.

Thank you BTW, I love it :)

I will be back to Ohio for good mid August, and I am ready to come back home.. although I should not complain there are a lot of people in a lot worse places than I am...

100% worth it. My friends think I'm driving a 3 year old car when they come in. I don't deny nor confirm :shifty

And yes, install is very simple. The worst are the ones in the C-pillar and the one in the passenger side footwell/glovebox.

Install is straight forward. I had LED Interior lights on my E46, like Alex said the C Pillars can be kinda PITA.

I have some in my 128i now as well.

For some reason these bulbs will not work in the "switched" sockets in the c-pillar location. I tried multiple bulbs and none of them work there. They do work in the other c-pillar locations. The OEM bulbs work in both locations. Any ideas?

Shawn,
Did you get the C pillar lights figured out? I noticed they both had to be swapped to LEDs to get either one to function.

They should be just as easy to remove. Start in the lower corner that's most forward, and work free the pop clips. Once you can get your hand in there, unplug the light.

You should research and see if any of the newer series are backwards compatible.

For example, I have E89 LED License Plate Lights in my E86...just a simple connector swap and bam, OEM...

Just sayin. Enjoy the new lights though!

That's my only real gripe about these. At least in my installation, there seems to be a minimal voltage at which these illuminate... so it's more like a "flick on at the dimmest allowable level, then brighten up" and "fade to dimmest allowable level, then shut off".

When it gets dark out again, I'll shoot a quick video of it.

Another side note - the vanity lights are SUPER bright. Tiffany was in tears applying makeup on our way to a party this past weekend. I felt a very uncomfortable mix of empathy, regret, and hilarity.

Washburn

Hmpf - that dampened my spirits a bit - so they're NOT really equal to OEM dimming ....
And yes - poor Tiffany.
If those things are that darned bright I might just do the map and dome and leave the rest...Vanity lights rarely get used in my car, and when they do, I don't want Gail to 'cry'.

RITmusic2k
01-06-2014, 10:54 AM
Definitely do the trunk and glove box! Those lights aren't on a fader, and the illumination is superb.

I'd say that the only ones I'm gonna switch back are the vanity lights; everything else (especially the fore and aft reading lights) are great.

Washburn
01-06-2014, 10:59 AM
I didn't get the trunk lights for now...plenty well lit with the factory bulbs, and it's not very critical to me..
So the somewhat awkward fade in/out of the rest of the lights is not bad enough to bother you, I assume?

LEDs do not like video camera. The FPS on a camera makes then appear flickering, which is not the case what so ever

While installing the kit this evening, I too noticed that the vanity lights were painful to the eyes. Before changing them back to the regular bulbs, I took advantage of LED bulb's ability to direct light through bulb rotation. So by turning the face of the bulb away from the passenger/driver, I was able to zero in on an angle which didn't bother my eyes but still provided better output than the oem bulb. I did the same with the trunk lights. Very happy with the kit overall.

Lol exactly. Its something I never noticed until I saw how they could potentially look w/ LEDs. May place an order soon but I have too many parts to get on the car first.
They are a nice improvement, but other maintenance, etc. first. Wait on a sale.

I really wish I didn't click this thread and see Monk3y's pics. These look amazing but I'm pissed I missed the ECS sale

I can take pics of my 128 if you want ;)

PS - Try and email James at ECS to see if he can match the sale price. He is awesome to deal with and I know him personally, really good guy.

I saw Xenon bulbs for the interior on Bimmian. Any thoughts on those compared to LED's?

thanks!

Got mine installed on Saturday. I am loving them. Everyone that has seen them so far commented that they really like them. The trunk lights have been especially popular. Great upgrade.

Not too many, until the sand bags come out. :cool

On a side note, we once got eight people in my 1990 Eclipse for a quick run down to the burger joint in high school for lunch. That was crazy. High schoolers can be so dumb. Haha.
