View Full Version : Steering Wheel 'M' Emblem

Not sure if this is even the correct forum to ask this, and I have searched all over, but...

Does anyone have a source for the small 'M' emblem that's on the M3 and ZHP steering wheels? Looking on realoem it doesn't appear they're available separately from the bottom trim piece, which is frustrating as hell. As usual, BMW wants too much money for that simple piece of plastic.

I recently picked up a ZHP wheel, and am going to be refinishing the lower section because of a few nicks and marks, and figured now was a good time to replace the emblem. It looks like the ones that go on the rims may work in a pinch, but those have more rounded corners, IIRC.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

They're the same ones that are used on the wheels. You can buy them on ecstuning. I had I buy one for my wheels last year. They're like $7

I'm surprised to hear you say they're the same. The one that I've managed to pry out of my steering wheel is hard plastic, while the ones I've purchased for my wheels are a softer material that have really rounded corners.

Then again I am a bit OCD...

it's probably baked hard from the sun and being inside the car, it was probably soft when new. Also, they could have change the material they make it with

Checked with my parts guru, Mike Kent at the BMW Store in OH. Best source for das genuine parts und so weiter, if you ask me...

Actual ///M piece from the steering wheel is not available separately, and yes most people just use the (alloy) wheel emblems.

Honestly I'm surprised BMW doesn't sell this on its own. Lord knows they manage to find a way to sell every other little bit and bauble at top dollar...

Here some on eBay.

"M Emblem's" (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-M-rim-wheels-e90-e92-e46-M-Logos-zhp-csl-avant-garde-dinan-alpina-18-19-/140847902031?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20cb306d4f&vxp=mtr)

Yep, I've already got a set of those emblems I bought from BMW. I finally found where I'd squirrelled them away.

They are close to the one on the steering wheel, but not an exact match.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd let the group know the steering wheel emblems are in fact different from the ones on the alloy wheels, and there's even a replacement part available if you're handy with an Exacto.

I've attached a couple of pics showing the difference between the two. Tire emblem (for sake of clarity) has rounded corners, and is flexible enough to be nearly bent in half. Steering emblem is hard acrylic, and has a greater depth and squared corners.

I knew I'd seen a steering wheel with a similar emblem on an E30 M3 Evo in an old Bimmer magazine, and sure enough the M Tech wheel emblem found on some Euro models is an exact match. Only difference is it has a backing with two mounting studs that will need to be removed. No big deal, just carefully cut it off with an Exacto knife and glue/epoxy the emblem in place.

Part number is 32 33 2 226 479, $10.00 from the BMW Parts Store.

Hope this helps any fellow OCD members.
