Hey guys! When I got on this wonderful forum a few months ago, I threw up pictures of the E30 that I bought right after I bough my ZHP. Well, a few months later, I started really digging into the M20, and playing around with ideas. I pulled off the wheels, played with the coilovers, sanded, Bondo'd, and primed the car. Now, I'm in the middle of doing a 2.7 ETA build. Not a lot of people stick with the M20, and I think it's a perfectly capable motor, and can apply power efficiently, which is something that I don't think a lot of the later motors do. The M20 is light, easy to work on, cheap to maintain, and let's be honest, I put my money into the ZHP because I love it. So, started this thread for anyone who likes the classics. I'll be updating it as I go along!

How she used to look. Gunmetal XXRs, slammed, lip on the front (that I kept tearing off...), and bright red. Not for everyone, and I quickly got tired of it.

Photoshoot for my little brother's class.

Conditioned the leather, dashboard, vacuumed, soaped the carpets and she's lookin good. Only one crack in the dashboard and it's really small. Kept it clean since the day I picked it up!

My ladies in the garage together. Getting ready for tear down :)

Three weeks later, we locked ourselves out of the warehouse, so instead of wasting time, we used the shed in the back. So it's a little hood.. But it worked until we could get back in to the warehouse. Oops.

Primed up! Getting ready for some pearl white paint! We'll see if I decide to change the color. I've been toying with the idea of United Grey from VW, or Techno Violet purple from the E36 M3. My little brother suggested that we do the wheels a dark, dark purple; almost black. So, I might stick with white or UG. We'll see!

Drove her to work yesterday. On my way to grab up a Getrag 260 later today, LOOK at some M50s, and decide on a project path. Still need to Bondo the passenger fender and the rear in some spots, but she's coming along. Being almost 23 and student teaching so much, it's hard for me to always throw parts at it. My three brothers and I have been splitting costs, so it'll come around pretty quickly I hope!

Updates later this week, and in a few weeks when I decide on M50, or to stroke the M20. Up for suggestions. I miss my E36, but I'd like to give the M20 a shot. It's lighter and thrown out a lot. In a perfect world, I could drop the M54 in it and swap the S54 into my ZHP...

Always loved that chassis, and I like the look you've got so far... Me personally, I'd ditch the rear flares, or at least mold, and paint them so they look like part of the body... But nice work so far and can't wait to see more!

We were thinking about it. I'm a little torn. The bolt on flares give it a touch of character, and the wheels in the rear fill every centimeter of them. So we might take the route of molding them. Thanks for the input man!

Looks like you are making great progress with her. Keep up the good work!

A shot of my E30 post re-build several years ago, shortly before selling her to buy the ZHP:

Ahh! I gotcha. I like the grey leather! I'd love some black leather like the e30.

Oh I know! If the red wasn't so worn, I would have stuck with it. But the pearl white will give it a different character I think. The m20 is a forgotten motor so I think I'll stick with it. Stay tuned man!

For anybody that's interested, my little brother took our XXRs to work and blasted them. They came out pretty pitted from the harsh material he used, but we sanded them down with some 220, and they look great again.

After the sand blasting and repair sanding:

Starting on the coloring. Needs some wet sanding and a clear, but they're turning out alright. I understand they're not everybody's cup of tea, but they're different, and it's not my daily driver. It's a character of a car, so I wanted to help it stand out.

On the E30, Mr. Wilson. It's not red anymore, clearly. Haha. You can put them on the ZHP, but they might be a little small. 15x8 et0.
