View Full Version : Bazooka tubes and HK

I found some info on e46... Someone mentioned a bazooka tube would be able to run off the HK amp and give a cost effective solution to adding some punch to an otherwise stock system.

Has anyone tried this?

I had one in a few of my jeeps back in the day. I have an infinity basslink now in the ZHP (same principle as the zooka tubes). I just don't feel like it gives the sub enough power to cut through the rear seats when the trunk is empty but thats just me. If I load up my trunk with photo gear and bags - it pounds.

Does it tie in easily off the HK amp?

UdubBadger

well mine goes through my dynavin. I think if you don't have that sub preout they tap the rear 6x9's for a signal.

I tapped into the wire before it got to the hk amp in the trunk.

So I guess my question is will the bazooka run off the existing amp?

Also, does the bazooka replace the HK subs, or just add to them?

UdubBadger

possibly. i think it depends on which bazooka you get. Some run off the amp, some already are amped so you just need a signal.

If you want to use the amp to power the tube you will need to choose between 6x9's and the tube. You only have some much power to go around.

makes sense

Good comment. I didn't realize there were different models per se.

I know some use the bass link, but it seems to be particular where it can be mounted, and takes up a bit of space. The tube seems more versatile.

Any other "satellite" systems that play nice with our HK ?

I'll snap a pic of my trunk for you so you can see how its mounted - doesn't take much space at all.

hold on.

Not bad at all.

Is it "mounted" (read: holes on floor), or is it simply sitting there.

How do you like it?

UdubBadger

its mounted into the false floor for the spare so I can't get in there unless I unlatch the sub but thats fine.

Like I said, its a touch underpowered for me but if I pack the truck with my stuff it hits a lot harder than if its empty and since I'm working so much now it's usually full so all is good. price was right though, under $200 on sale.

Good to know, thanx

I'm not looking for thumping bass, just more defined that is the HK. I have a bag in the back that has emergency supplies, quick detailed, microfiber, etc... Looks slightly smaller than your photo bag in the image... Might just do the trick.

Did you set it up yourself? May I ask where you found the sale?

best buy online sale, let them install it too for $59

Yeah, I didn't want thumping bass either...just a little more pep for the hk. I don't have fold down seats so I mounted the bass link to them. I should get a pic.

Yes! I just want to hear more definition... I don't need the jaw rattling.

I do have fold down seats (and ski pass if that makes a diff...)

Would live to see pix

Someone suggest JL stealthbox... That's more $$$ than BSW

I have the fold down seats, so that's not really an option for me... Though it looks ideal for you.

Yeah, I don't see this working for fold-down folks.

Anybody else doing boot-bass? I'm thinking about the Basslink for Colin.

Yeah bass link is the way to go but just in case bavsound has $200 off their Ghost Subs right now.

Just figured I'd throw it out there. I have the bass link so I know it's an above average performer

And not hard to install (wire) to HK system?

If you need the most basic install you can tap for power and tap audio from the factory sub or rear speakers. That's only needed if you don't have RCA pre outs like from a dynavin/eonon.

Not sure if you can hook into factory amp but he sub is already powered so it doesn't need the amp to drive it.

Thanks. I just got the Crutchfield Christmas Catalog and see 2-3 powered subs in there. I need to do some research.

-JL W3v3 MicroSub
-Kicker Hideaway
-Kicker 10" CompRT (needs amp I think)
-Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-10

A few more to consider:

Seth, do you have a Line Out Converter (LOC) in your setup? Is one needed for a powered sub?

UdubBadger

I don't need it on mine as the eonon has a subwoofer rca already.

I just realized I have an Infinity Basslink sitting in my '84 6'er that I'm selling. I'm going to go un-install it now in hopes to add it to my ZHP.

I have the stock Business CD head -- do you all recommend going to a pro to do the installation? Or is it really quite simple?

I've heard good things about this one and the company was quick to respond to me inquiry.

Yeah might as well let Best Buy or someone pull it for you so you retain everything you need to sell or have it installed in something else.

When I started trying to fit bavsound woofers using the bavsound website I was told the subs aren't available for my car (2006 coupe).

I am attracted to getting more bass in the cabin and right now I'm looking carefully at the idea of replacing driver's under-seat speaker with one of these:
http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/car/amp_spk/com/KSC-SW11/?view=details.
Under $150.00 on Amazon
Maybe just plug it into a power source and tap the speaker out that would have fed the factory speaker.
I'm just getting started on this idea: any input appreciated.

I had one of those in my old Jeep Grand Cherokees and it was crap. The basslink is about $189 I think, go with that all day over this kenwood

I"m sure it's very good but in a coupe it seems there'd be two problems: bass being trapped in the trunk and having such a large speaker in the trunk. That said, Ive researched since the last post: there's no way to put what I had in mind into my car or probably any ZHP: there's just no room under the seat.

That's actually not bad.

You won't get amazing sound response since it's not a 10" or 12" surface but I bet it's better than stock.
