View Full Version : ZHP Gathering for Oktoberfest '13?

I am wondering if there would be an interest for the ZHP SIG to support the BMW CCA for the Oktoberfest '13 in Monterrey/Laguna Seca. This would be a great chance to show the appreciation of the ZHP SIG to the CCA for their support. A great turn out of ZHP from the West Coast would be the best time for a gathering. I know I will be attending Oktoberfest. And I will be bringing the ZHP.

I have been to Monterrey/Laguna several times with my M3. And the M3 has been taking a beating on the long drive. Unless, the S14.net would also be considering a gathering. Then I will bring both vehicles. Running the Laguna would be the chance of a lifetime. In a side note, if the Oktoberfest is not a success, then it is a guarantee....Oktoberfest will never return to the West Coast.

If there was ever a time to book 10 days in Carmel.

Monterey Historics Aug 15-18, Concorso Italiano - Aug 16, Pebble Beach Concours - Aug 18, and then almost a week of Oktoberfest Aug 19-24

The weather is generally never better than this time of year either. The summer fog lifts early and Indian Summer is upon Nor Cal.

While your here, don't forget the golf clubs as Pebble Beach, Del Mar, and Spyglass Hill are all within 30 minutes as well.

No idea what this is but I'm interested.
I will have turned 21 for barely a week during that time so if alcohol's involved as with the Oktoberfest I'm thinking of, then definitely. :innocent

If you can afford PB, go for it. Only played there once on a foursome with bro-in-law....and that was it. LOL. Also a lot of things to see in downtown Monterrey.....

I will be bumping this thread from time to time so everybody in the Western half of the US is there (BP, you better fly out...). Even if you have an issue with CCA at the moment because of the SIG issue, this has nothing to do with those idiots.

Oh damn... registration begins mega early...
Since I've never been to an O'Fest, do they typically sell out? I probably won't be able to register until the last month or so because of $$.

If I don't have to worry about selling out, then I think I know where some of my vacation days are going!

I have attended two O'fests & never heard of them selling out. HPDE events at O'fest did have limited space, but never heard of someone not being able to get in. This even more so given the current economy.

REGISTRATION OPENS THIS FRIDAY!!!

Oktoberfest Registration Opens This Friday, March 1 At 12:01 A.M. EST
Registration for the 44th Annual Oktoberfest in Monterey, California, August 19-24, opens this Friday. The host hotel will be the Hyatt Regency in Monterey—and the track, of course, is the world-famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Yes, finally you, too, will drive the Corkscrew!

Please note: The registration process has changed this year. The actual registration form is being hosted on the BMW CCA website. Before you are able to register on Friday you must log in to the website and enter your vehicle(s) in the garage. When you are logged in, you will see a blue link at the top of the screen that says "Your Garage." Please click this link and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your vehicle(s). You can also access the garage via the direct link.

Once you've entered your vehicle(s) into the garage, you may proceed to Oktoberfest registration once it opens on March 1. You will be able to select an entire package or select individual events via the ā la carte option. The link below will take you to the Oktoberfest website, where you can preview the packages and schedule now.

Just registered for Oktoberfest, my first time going. Helps that I can drive there, especially with the official event hotel already sold out. Signed up for Friday driving school at Laguna Seca, Thursday AutoX (wait-listed), and Tuesday night "Taste of Monterey" which might be just wine tasting but hopefully also includes sampling of local cuisine. I like to eat more than I like to drink!

Wednesday and Thursday driving schools already sold out but accepting names for for the wait lists. Friday was down to 20 slots which is why I signed up now. Want to drive Saturday but don't want to spend the extra money 4 months in advance. If Saturday still has slots after Memorial Day, I'll sign up for a 2nd day.

Even if you have an issue with CCA at the moment because of the SIG issue, this has nothing to do with those idiots.
Was born and razed (sic) in Monterey, but just like Monterey Pop Festival back in '67 I'll miss this gig too.

If someone intentionally smashes and then torches their BMW ala Hendrix and his Stratocaster hopefully someone attending here can post it up. ;)

What's this SIG issue that's being mentioned here with CCA?

JP, Derek, I think the Friday school is still open today. It will probably sell out soon but the Saturday school should stay open for a while. That's what I'm hoping for. Probably a lot of attendees from out of state start driving home Saturday morning if they drove, or head to the airport or golf or shopping on Saturday if they flew in and rented or shipped their car.

Edit: CCA reg guy said the local Hilton is the backup event hotel since the Hyatt is sold out.

first track day was today but I haven't heard any news. I think my first event starts at 7pm tomorrow night. I'll leave work, pick up my daughter from after school car, wait for my wife to get home, then drive through Santa Cruz and hope the traffic isn't too bad to Monterey. Then drive home, then drive to Laguna Seca early Friday morning, which could be counter-commute. Thinking about getting a cheap hotel Friday night. Except I don't think there are any cheap hotels in Monterey! (Maybe in Salinas.)

Met a bunch of San Diego and Los Angeles CCA chapter folks, including Nick the regional VP for CCA, Satch Carlson, Satakal and Kim (can we call them Satakim?), Andre Eisenbach, Richard/Jordan father-son team from the LA chapter, Octavio with the Valencia Orange 1M, and some other folks I used to see at the San Diego autoX event. In fact the San Diego chapter was running the AutoX at Oktoberfest.
