The ZHP has found a new home, will definitely let the new owner know about the mafia. My new baby will be picked up from north carolina on monday. Dont worry, I will document the trip. Here is a little teaser pic.

Kris,

That ///M looks nice :thumbsup Enjoy the ride back :)

edit: Kris got your texts this afternoon....looks like a chapter will now close soon when the new owner comes to pick up your ZHP... too bad you couldn't keep her!

At midnight my days with the zhp ended. It was an unforgettable 50 months with the car. I went from being a single irresponsible young man in this vehicle, to a married family oriented businessman.
I ended up having the ability to take the zhp down to NC to pick up the M5 in one last ride. I am not going to lie I really was sad driving her down. I knew it would be the last trip I would be taking in it and as I was cleaning it out I found souvenirs of my first date with my wife. It ended up being an emotional 650 mile trek filled with mixed feelings, mixed weather, and ended up being an unforgettable trip.
I took final pics of the zhp in its next owner form right before the trip (minus the rims):

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a67/krisgt30/21a04c46.jpg
The trip ended up taking 11hrs because of hurricane like winds and downpours for about 3 hours but in the end it was worth it because this was waiting in the parking lot for me.

To my surprise the former owner was younger than me at 27 years old, however he had been transitioning out of the sportscar phase after owning a Maserati and M5 to a Range Rover for his passion for mountainbiking/offroading.

The next day I picked up my title and headed back to CT with my cousin driving the zhp back while I drove the M5. I managed to snag a couple of pics/vids of the zhp one last time.

Some updates on my car, today took it to Pruven Performance down the road here in Milford to get some baseline numbers before I throw in my custom stage 3 intake and eurocharge tune. Not sure if most of you know, but my current setup is basically bone stock, except for Dinan Exhaust and Resonator delete. Most intake systems out there dyno a loss to a minimal gain for the S85 (1-2hp max). However there has been a stage 3 intake system that retails for about $1500 - $2000 that creates a true cold air intake system with the cones sitting behind the kidney grills. Problem is, these systems utilize very cheap parts (ie. no name filters, rubber elbows) to maximize the profits of their systems. I went ahead and built my own system, nearly identical to theirs for a fraction of the cost. Not only is it cheaper, but I am utilizing two billet aluminum maf flanges, two AEM dry flow 3"x5" cones and blue silicone elbows rather than rubber, creating a higher end product. Next week I will dyno with just the cones, and the week after with the tune as well. If my results are as expected, I will begin to produce and sell these intakes on my own. Without further adue, the dyno videos and numbers.

After SAE Correction numbers came out to 411whp however we could not get a good reading on the torque. The individual running the dyno said that sometimes you need to pop the housing off of one of the coil packs to get an accurate reading bc bmw insulates their coils heavily making it difficult to read. Next week I will be doing another three runs with the Stage 3 intake system on, then another 3 runs after the tune the week after that. I am trying to prove that this system is worthwhile. If my assumptions are correct we should look at around a 5whp gain without a tune and a significant bump with a tune. I will also try to get the torque reading issues worked out. Any input from any of you guys to try and get an accurate torque reading with a dynojet?

Coupled with other mods, it affects both. Alone it should be just mid, but with intakes, exhaust and headers the gains should be monstrous on the S85.

Any mafia members know where I could pick up 3" aluminum tubing in person? I tried Home Depot, Lowes, Auto Zone and no luck. It could even be a hair under 3" because the outer diameter of the tubing needs to be 3".

Update, I ordered 6 feet of 3" outer diameter aluminum tubing (2mm wall) from Oregon for $60 shipped. Most reasonable prices I have found online. Unfortunately metal retailers online closer to here were charging about double that price before shipping. eBay wasn't much cheaper either. So my project will be pushed back another week.

After spending all day removing my oem intakes, removing my headlight, removing my grills, cutting aluminum, getting my maf flanges welded on, test fitting everything; It is finally alive! My custom built dual cold air intake system utilizing two AEM dry flows has come to be. First thoughts are worries for hydrolocking but I have never heard of someone hydrolocking their motor without submerging the intakes in water. At long last, here are the pictures.

So I went ahead and received a eurocharged tune, man this thing pulls! I ended up figuring out how to remove the tumblers from the stock mafs and throwing them in my system in place of the AC filters. However, I think I will need to get it retweaked as all the mods were not accounted for in the file. So I am sure there is a little more hp that can be squeaked out of my setup vs their cookie cutter tune for a stock M5. This will have to wait until after I get back from vacation as I am going to the DR for a week with the wife. Once I come back I will get the final tune and dyno again at Pruven.

This means either headers, BBS rims or both depending on the deal I could snag for the wheels. The vehicle is still throwing CEL's in 7th gear on the highway.

Thanks Guys!

I decided I wanted to give the OEM wheels a unique look rather than go aftermarket since I believe these wheels are already flawless. The color they powdercoated the wheels is a two stage color called ghost chrome. This is basically a fully customizable color where there is a brilliant black base coat then a metallic silver overlay. The amount of silver overlay you use will determine how dark or how light your wheels will come out. I went with the darker look and I love it. These guys do an amazing job. The color has so much depth and pop that pictures do not do it justice.

My brother is still actually on the fence about going E92 vs E60 M. I think as he sees my car progress he leans towards the V10 more and more.

Love the M5, this is my next car for sure.

I just WISH BMW had brought over the Imola Red to the US. If they had I would be owning an E60 M5, as well, with an Eisenmann Race Exhaust.

Cam and I saw and heard an E60 with the Eisenmann Race pulling out of Caffeine and Octane. Just as Cam said, it's the most amazing noise we've ever heard. It felt like it was getting louder as he got farther away, and almost everyone watching the cars fell silent to listen to it. So do that, lol.

A doctor buddy of mine that had an E60 M5 for a while, had this exhaust. Hands down the most awesome exhaust I have ever heard. He went to a large car meet one night and after he left he floored it and the entire parking lot filled with people went quiet and just watched him leave. haaa Even the corvette/camaro/charger/big v8 guys stood up and were like HOLY $(&$#(@$

I am glad I don't have an Imola M5. I would be getting pulled over every day I drove it. Dinan+Res Deletes > eisenmann exhaust in loudness. And it's more of a controlled scream vs the burbling an eisenmann or meistercraft belch out.

Thanks to a member on M5board, I was able to source a new upper and lower housing for my passenger mirror for $200 shipped. Once it arrives I will take it to a body shop around the corner to have the housing painted. Once completed I will have them install it.

Now I am sitting on a set of CF mirror covers from Autocarbon that I purchased as a temporary fix until the mirror is painted. However, these things just arrived and I have to remove the mirrors to install the covers. :facepalm

I installed my tire valves today as well as some new M logos for the floor mats. I could not justify buying another set of floor mats just because the M5 logo was a little ratty while the mats as a whole were still in good shape. Here are pics of the locking M caps installed and the floor mat logo's.

I tried even using bleach on the M and nothing helped. I dont know if PO never cleaned them or what?! I just ended up finding a set for $140 shipped so I bought them. These will turn into my winter mats.

After 3 different versions of the eurocharged tune being installed, Jerry is no longer going to be trying to get a custom tune together for my intakes to work. Kind of disappointing in that these CAN be made to work with a Eurocharged tune just pretty impossible when I dont have a Eurocharged location nearby. I have reached out to Michael at Fluid Motor Union and will be getting a custom Alpha N tune for my setup. I will also dyno at Pruven Performance for a second time to show the gains of the software and intakes combined. As far as the intake system goes, I triple checked the piping diameter to be sure that I was not messing with the scaling of the MAFs and it is an identical 3" inner diameter to the OEM MAF housing. I purchased blue silicone 45 degree elbows to replace the rubber boots at the intake manifolds. A Much cleaner look IMO. I also got the secondary air pump bung welded onto the intake tubing for a cleaner look. Pics attached.

It is unfortunate, I don't mean to badmouth Eurocharged in any way, but I am just handcuffed not having a location nearby to get it on a dyno and let them work their magic. I am not settling to return to stock boxes because the difference is extremely noticeable. I will bet a 20whp gain on the conservative side from these intakes alone. A similar intake system goes on Ebay for $1550 and claims to work without a tune. This has got to get fixed.

Thanks! This is probably the 6th revision of this intake system. Being the guinea pig has its headaches and rewards.

My wifes cousin had his velocity stacks fabricated and installed by FMU for his M6. First of its kind, so I am sure they can put together a tune for this intake setup if they managed to do one for stacks.

surely, just looking out for you my friend. i'm local and on 2 occasions their service was horrible and once I was severely overcharged for some really super basic stuff. just letting you know. I'm not acting as an EC rep right now, i'm telling you this as a mafia member, thats all.

unfortunately (mostly for me) I get nothing other than the satisfaction of knowing you were happy from you running the EC tune in this case so it's not like I'm bad mouthing anyone to try and save business or a commission check for myself. just want to make that clear that i'm just giving you my honest opinion as a mafia member/friend without bias.

like i said hopefully they can fix your issues and are better to you than they have been to me in the past. let us know what happens.

******INTAKE UPDATE******
I have finally gotten my custom intake systems to work and work efficiently. The intakes finally design now works with a stock Ecu and the eurocharged tune. All it took was some tweaking of the whole systems diameter and finally got all of the kinks worked out. Not only have I got the system working properly, but in conjunction with Jerry's Eurocharged tune this system is absolutely amazing. the sound, the pull, the idle, the downshift pops, all perfect. I should mention that Jerry from Eurocharged did put in a lot of effort working with me in order to create a file that would work with system. After 3 different revisions, and no success, I knew it was something minor with my design. After triple checking EVERYTHING, I noticed a slight error in a calculation in the diameter of my maf tubing, after correcting that, all problems gone and the car runs like a dream. I will now be going to the dyno tomorrow to get after numbers. Once I achieve numbers I suspect, I will be selling these systems for well under ASR and Efren's pricing. Also the product would look a little more finished, with brushed aluminum piping or powdercoat options for the buyers as well as different color choices for the elbows/fittings.

So now that I have done the following in the first year, I did not know where to go next. (Aside from maintenance this past year)
- Eurocharged Tune
- Custom Stage 3 AEM dry flow intake system
- Res Delete
- Rims powdercoated ghost chrome
- carbon front splitters
- 60mm stud conversion kit

I was contemplating headers or electric dump tubes to have an on tap straight pipe system. After months of deliberation, I decided I am going to leave the M5 as is from a performance standpoint. 550hp is plenty fast and I do not need anymore in a street car. Plus headers on an E60 M5 seem a little immature and obnoxious (just my opinion, maybe I am getting old). So now, I decided that I am going to go with a second set of rims. Not a run of the mill second set of rims, but a set of rims that invoke a wow or holy $h!t response. So now that the home is purchased and a third car will be coming along shortly. I am saving up to pull the trigger on a set of Titanium finish BBS F1 Rims. They will be a staggered 19x9.5 front 19x10.5 rear ET 28 and ET23. IMO these will look amazing with the massive slotted rotors filling the gaps! I have a friend that just set up an account with BBS and is working on getting a pricing quote for me as we speak. Super pumped and will be well worth the wait!!!!

As far as the intakes go, no quality sound clips yet. I plan on doing a go pro run through the lincoln tunnel late at night very soon. Just waiting for my buddy to complete his 3.8l build in his 996TT. He will pull bus lengths on me but hey my car can seat more than two people.

Not going FI. I plan on keeping this car forever and want the engine to last as long as possible. Dont want to add stress to an already high strung motor. Dont want to mess around with pulleys either.
