OEM BMW 330 ZHP Alcantara Steering Wheel Still Available

My Alcantara Steering Wheel is starting to show signs of wear at 90K, so I thought I've do a little research. When I was a the Dealer today picking up something for my other Bimmer, I ask the parts guy if the Alcantara Wheel was still available. It was a slow a Saturday, so he looked it up, and yes it is still available. Only problem is, it comes with a VERY, VERY BIG PRICE TAG. $1263.00! Ouchy wow wa

You know it's expensive when your 10% car club discount is $126.30.

Just get the alcantara oem replaced and with the ///M3 tri-stiching for $250.00

To replace the wheel for the covering is ludicrous imho.

Where did you find it for $250? I paid $370 for mine at Tischer.

Shoot...I got the $60 euro perf leather wheelskin.

I'd rather have aftermarket intake than that.

Oh yeah that's the exact price. BMW changed my entire wheel at 32k miles :) But I didnt pay, they did, it was still CPO. I have connections and used the term "pre-mature wear" ;)

I'm seriously considering having him do mine with Alcantara and the tri-stitch. Either that or get an M3 wheel with the tri-stitch but to me that's part of what is special about a ZHP....the Alcantara wheel. His contact info on E46fanatics is coby1 or m123 on m3forums.net.

I agree, our Alcantara steering wheel is a mark of distinction; just one of the many cool things about our cars. And, it's not as though the material is an 'industry-concluded' bad idea - current Lamborginis have Alcantara steering wheels.

i pm'ed you back saying i didnt want to do it lol / sorry but i dont think i would want to do another one it just takes way too much xtra time to do and if i dont line up stripe good enough i waste fabric(which happend on this effort the fabric stretches and then when i work to make the thumb grip areas smooth it stretches more so its hard to gauge the stripe )so that said its a slim chance that i will make one /and if i did it would have to be for more than what i useually chg.

Yup, and who knows, maybe they have improved the durability of Alcantara in the 6 or 7 years since ours were produced. No doubt the M3 wheel looks sweet too but I've seen pics of older ones and they seem to get smooth/shiny after time and don't look nearly as nice as new. I have no idea how long that takes to happen though.

Damn! That sounds like a heck of a deal. I would have gladly taken it off your hands just to have a good core on hand for a re-wrap, or maybe used it as-is.

From my POV, it's primarily about maintenance. A regular, gentle cleaning with a moistened microfilter towel seems to keep a good one fresh. Attempting to bring them back from the dead is a separate issue - IOW, an ongoing lack of care. Driving gloves are also a plus.

I agree! Even though I probably could have gotten another year out of mine I sent it in today to the guy I mentioned above for a re-wrap with Alcantara and tri-stitch. I see he has a website now. He also raised his prices a bit but still not a bad price. Can't wait to get it back on now.

Actually it looks more like $555 for a tri-stitched OEM 9002 Grey. Yes, grey.....I thought, like I'm sure most people do that our Alcantara is black but it's actually 9002 Grey. Keep that in mind if you're having a wheel wrapped. Luckily Mike checked with me before doing mine to make sure what I wanted.
