Question for you track rats out there. Anyone tried the Safety Solutions head and neck restraints? These are the Hybrid Pro, Hybrid Pro-RAGE, and R3. What about using them with stock 3-pt belt, Schroth Quick-Fit 4-pt harness, or Schroth Quick-Fit Pro?

Most racers use HANS but it requires dual shoulder belts that meet in the middle (buckle) at the lap belt. I want neck crash protection but am not ready to go with rollbar and fixed seat. Finally saved my pennies for a Hybrid Pro-RAGE at $595 only to find that A) I probably need the Large for $645 and B) it's still designed for shoulder harness belts. The Safety Solutions R3 works with any belt (or no belt) but costs $995.

Trying to figure out my best safety options here, other than rollbar and fixed seats.

OEM 3-point belt and no H&NR until I get roll bar and 6-pt harness -- $0
HANS (or Neksgen) and Schroth Quick-Fit Pro 4-point harness -- $980
Safety Solutions R3 and use with OEM 3-pt belt -- $995
Safety Solutions Hybrid RAGE with my Schroth QuickFit (not Pro) 4-pt -- $645

Here's what I have now:

vs. what I'd need for an officially endorsed solution with a HANS

I've have only once seen an HPDE (non-race) guy at the track with a HANS, and he used the Schroth Quick-Fit Pro. None of the other HPDE drivers or instructors use one. Anyone tried one of these combos? What do the LEMONs and Chumpcar folks do, share one H&NR amongst all the drivers, or just wear a donut?

The HANS has shoulder wings and a yolk on your chest and the shoulder straps have to rest on top of those. The Safety Solutions Hybrid has the shoulder wings but no yolk in front; instead it straps to your torso. That's why I'm thinking the regular Schroth QuickFit might work okay with the Hybrid.

I ordered one. We'll see how it works on the track without a 5-pt or 6-pt harness.

Not the Hybrid Pro (http://simpsonraceproducts.com/head-neck/index.html) for $995, but the Hybrid Pro Rage (http://simpsonraceproducts.com/head-neck/hybrid_rage.html) for $595 (+$50 since I ordered a large, so $645). The Rage is like 1 lb heavier because it's composite while the more expensive Hybrid Pro is all carbon fibre. If you have 5/6-pt harnesses or the Schroth Quick-Fit Pro, I think you can get a HANS Sport or NecksGen for $595 complete.

The serious racers on the forums all recommend getting a H&NR (most clubs require them for amateur racing) but almost all of them use the HANS which requires a harness, which requires a roll bar (or at least a harness bar). My first track day was almost exactly 3 years ago. The cost is why I waited 3 years to get one.

I actually got rid of my Schroth Harness when I went to an SPG seat. I will have to look into this. I feel like I should get a suit before I get this lol.

Argh, arrived today but I ordered the wrong size! Am working with vendor to exchange. Ordered Large, should have ordered Medium. Measured the largest part of my chest and it was borderline between M and L, but that was the wrong place to measure. I would have to do a lot of weights at the gym or get really fat to make the Large fit properly.
