Gotta wash the car, pick a spot, wait for the right light, compose the shot, get home and pull it up, decide that the shot sucks, delete it, return to step one and repeat...

Sorry - still on vacation. All I have to shoot pictures of is a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan which doesn't meet the criteria. The rental car agency was all out of e46's. :biggrin

But the good news is that I have figured out how to set up the camera based on daytime lighting conditions and pulled off some great shots!

The tripod is still in the back of the wagon - so when I get back I will be ready to snap shots left and right!

Photo was taken at night, in full darkness. Only source of light is an LED flashlight pointed at the car for a couple of seconds.

Will the type of camera used (regular digital vs SLR) have any weight on the results? Are you judging on actual picture quality or just the overall creativity?
My camera is far from what I would call professional, and do not have access to a decent SLR to be able to provide any shot worth posting on the front page of something. BUT, if you don't care as long as the execution is good, then I'll make an attempt to get a decent shot in...

Also, does the "quality" of the car matter as well? I have rock chips galore in the front that you can see if you walk up close, and would pretty much eliminate me entirely if it mattered...

And fwiw, low light photography is very difficult if you're hand holding the camera. Tripod is really the only way to do it without getting blur (or putting the camera on a flat level surface so you don't have to hand hold it).

(pic taken @ night, @ our alma mater Campbell University, new chapel, in front of a street lamp and a small spot lamp that was projecting on to one of the doors of the chapel. I am an amateur and it's just my taste, but I didn't want a LOT of light on the car itself...I had the background lighting indirectly pointed towards the ZHP from my wife's Elantra's headlights :) - No camera flash, Nikon D40 in "P" mode, hand-held ... I didn't have a lot of time as we're preparing for a trip to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks to see my family (leaving Monday), so I guess this will have to do...)

Just give us a chance to host this and then once we have a chance to have our shortcomings identified we can improve from there. There is a limit size. If we allowed huge pictures, you'd have pages breaking over on the site, which is something I decided I didn't want when I first launched the site.

I ran out of time. Only washed the car yesterday and didn't have any opportunities for nice weather other than yesterday. It got dark by the time I was done with the car, so no recent pics, unfortunately.
