Many, many ways to skin a cat. In the past I would just muscle the CAB's off the arm, then cut or pull the rest of the bushing off of the arm by whatever means necessary. Pretty caveman-like if you ask me.

Today, I injected one step into my previous doings. Pin punch the end of the control arm. I always had issues with the three jaw pulling slipping and sliding on the end of the the control arm which would lead to frustration.

Pin punch.

The utilize your three jaw puller. Both bushings came off very easily and completely.

Just a tip to make someone's life easier.

Happy wrenching and stay safe fella's.

I had both removed as whole units literally 3 minutes after pin punching.

I am about 3 hours too late reading this. I helped my son replace his control arms and bushings on his 2002 325i this afternoon. This would have been so easy to do on the bench before putting the new arms on. Oh well, hopefully I remember this for future work, I'm sure my ZHP will need new bushing before his does.

Really good idea!

Was working on this project with a friend of mine and my tech a while back and we came up with the same solution... Hot tip, works even more quickly with an impact wrench!

Ahh forgot about this tip. A few sources recommend using a small-ish drill bit to punch through a few places in the rubber to try and relieve some of the pressure. Worth a shot if you can't get it to budge.

It wasn't :(
