Definitely not vanos, I've put a stethoscope to the vanos housing and no sounds. Ticking comes from lifters area so I'm sure it's the lifters.

It's not TOO loud, in fact not everyone can hear it, but of course I can. Took it to the dealer a while back and they told me they couldn't hear anything.
