Wish I'd seen this earlier, I'm glad to see someone is still carrying the E46 torch in STX!
It was a few years ago now, but I did a pretty complete build on my ZHP, check it out here:
...
My ZHP is FOR SALE!
It's a 2003 330i ZHP, manual transmission, no sunroof, fixed rear seat. This is the stiffest E46 you can buy, without the heavy sunroof up top.
150,xx miles
Asking $6,500...
definitely easier to work the guibo from underneath, I think it ended up taking me about 30 minutes, not really that big a deal, but you do need the right socket, and having some flexibility in...
Good idea, I ended up doing the cooling system, CCV, ICV, VCG, and Vanos work this winter, all non-preventative. :(
My Motons have arrived, these are still for sale, so $1650, including the rear strut mounts, and free install if you're local or interested in meeting up in Lincoln or Milwaukee.
Costco is right, these will work great with either, would just use different camber plates. I have camber plates for non-M I could offer, but not at much of a discount over new.
I think if anyone knows how, tunnell should.
The one time my car ended up on the trailer the straps went through the wheels, but I wouldn't recommend that approach. The tow hooks got plenty of...
I use 265/18 Dunlop star specs (colder weather) and hankook RS3s. (warmer) when I say higher grip situations, I mean when it's 75+ on smooth asphalt, or 70+ on concrete. Colder weather or beat up...
And I realize I never answered your question, I use 600/750 in higher grip situations, and am thinking I'll try 650/750 next year. (600+ up front gets to be a bit much on the street)
All depends on your application... I liked 550/650 on the street with the ASTs, might be too harsh on ground control shocks.
Vorshlag tested the rear springs at more like 600 lbs, I believe.
One thing to think about, the LSD won't be in your budget if you want it to be useful for autocross. Also, you'd be surprised how well a good suspension setup reduces wheel spin. I've driven an E46...
430 lb springs are significantly softer than stock. (well, the stiffer part of the progressive stock springs) Go with at least 600 in the rear. Performance will improve, and you won't rub.
Chad - my apologies, I didn't get a response notification, and don't check here often...
You can use any 60mm coilover springs up front, any camber plates you like, (vorshlag, ground control, tc...
Cool, now you're closer to Lincoln! ;)
Check out SCR performance there, Chris mayfield works there, he has a formerly STU E36 M3, and won SM in an evo.
Bump - still available, spring is coming! =]
Spencers I may consider taking your dampers in trade, mine are getting long in the teeth... (the winter setup) email me!
These are high end double adjustable (compression and rebound) internal reservoir dampers.
$1750 firm, including struts, shocks, and RSMs, no springs, rear mounts, or camber plates. These are...
Front seats, wheels, exhaust, headers, shocks, springs, swaybars, battery, intake can all be lighter than factory, then there is getting down to minimal options, like no-sunroof, halogen headlights.
Heh, I've become rather good at this, can do it between runs now. ;)
Non-sunroof ZHPs are easier to find than sport package, I have a non-sunroof sedan. They're out there, check autotrader.
The Vorshlag plates really only have two caster settings, but for competition use, it won't matter on an E46, you'll want it at stock caster and max camber, for about -3.5*.
I use the Vorshlag...
Now that I'm at -4.0 on my DD, I actually change camber before/after events. (if I'm not being lazy) It moves from a bit of toe-out for autocross to a bit of toe-in on the street, which is great.
lol, Hi Gary... The guys around here are much more interested in looks... check the track section of bimmerforums or e46fanatics for more appropriate advice...
Lifting a wheel may mean that you're giving up grip somewhere, but usually it's a tradeoff that you're making to improve grip somewhere else.
Lots of very fast BMWs lift wheels. I don't think...
