No, for the most part. Low compression is usually limited to one particular cylinder. Compressor is needed for the ignition to fire causing the power stroke. Without compression it will not fire....

I priced an OE for mine a few months ago and the price wasn't bad. I would definitely check the dealer price before making a purchase. And, don't forget about a new windshield gasket.
I went with BMW and am very happy. It fits nice and has a sown in bag that always stays attached and hides on the underside of the Boot.
