I haven't replaced mine yet but looking at my Koni sports (yellows) that I plan to install, the piston (?) doesn't sit nearly as low as your OE shock on the right when it's "at rest." You can't fit...
I know little about suspension, but should that matter? I assume they are linear progression struts so no matter how compressed the strut is, it has the same amount of rebound pressure and therefore...
Good luck, let me know how it goes. I plan to do the whole suspension in a couple of weeks sans impact wrench.
