Found a cut wiring harness/loom under steering column

Today while I was coding some modules on my car, I found a harness/loom of wires under the steering column plastic cover. It was just hanging in there. Everything functions as it should on the car....

I didn't look further than what I could see from squatting next to the car. I'm going to investigate it tomorrow after work, but I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to what this could be!

Where EXACTLY (can you get a pic) did it come from and what colors are the wires?

Guessing they power the chime that sits under the dash.

The chime comes from the cluster.

There is a pannel knock out for a speaker under the dash. Some cars have it and others don't. My 328i has one.

There is only one other thing down there and that's the footwell light.

Does that illuminate when you open the door, Wyatt?

I wondered what that was. Perhaps it's done different between different E46s, but the beeping you hear when you turn your key comes from a small speaker on the back of the cluster. It's actually very loud, just muffled by the dash and such.

Yup. My ZHP doesn't have one either...but that could very well be a cluster difference.

That's probably it! I don't recall my footwell light working. I'll verify in the morning.

    Guys,

The footwell light is working just fine. Yikes... I'm going to chase it down tonight after work.
