    ZHP warm-up time

I'm curious how long everybody's car takes to warm up to operating temperature from a cold start.

One of the revelations I learned from my Ultragauge is that my car's normal operating temperature is ~ 210 F, but that the gauge on the dash starts reading 12 o'clock when the water temp is only 160 F. Thus, my warm up time, which I already thought was bit slow, was much slower than I realized.

Today I decided to pay attention to how slow. Car was parked all day outside. Ambient temperature was 52 F (according to dash display). At start-up, Ultraguage read 68 F. After 10 minutes of running (5 minutes of idle and 5 minutes of stop and go driving) the temperature finally reach 190 F.

Is this normal, or is it time to replace the thermostat?

Takes a long ass time. It's normal. You should see my dad's diesel Excursion. Tranny warms up in less than a minute. Engine takes FOREVER.

That's odd. Mine warms up super quick. It's at full operating temp in about two miles.

Mine too warms up pretty quickly. 5 minutes of idling and a few shifts do it for me on a 45 degree morning.

I think people are talking about two different things in this thread: oil and water temp. OP: oil takes a while to get up to temp. Everyone else, unless you have an oil temp gauge, your water temp gauge does not tell you when the engine is ready to rock and roll.
