Thread: Horn Broken

    Horn Broken

As the title says, my horn(s) are broken. One gave out, then the other. I checked the fuse and I believe it was good. I then pulled the horns out individually and tested them by quickly touching the prongs to the + and - end of the battery, no sound. I recognize that this isn't necessarily the best way to test it them. I believe the relay works as I can hear it clicking.

Now for finding a horn, it's significantly more difficult than necessary.
The car itself has two horns located under the headlights, a high tone, and a low tone.
Ideally I would replace both of them, but ordering from ECStuning shows them to be really expensive.

It looks to me like a basic FIAMM horn available on amazon for $10.

Is this the correct route to go, or does anyone have something to chime in?
    Thanks!

You can get louder Euro horns. PIAA or Hella both offer quality aftermarket horns at a great price. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

The test method you used should power up a functional horn. Porsche cars are known for horn trouble due to water ingestion. Have you forded any deep puddles lately? :D

No ideas for you on cheap horns except maybe from a junkyard or used on eBay.

There's two members here parting out E46's, Avetiso and mLuMaN83. Try sending them a PM.

    Thanks, I've messaged Wyatt.

I wonder if I could get the horn from a Mercedes 600 which top gear said was the loudest ever fitted to a production car :D
