    Diagnosing P0313, P0171, P0174

Guys, yesterday my service engine light came on and upon reading the codes, I got P0313 misfire detected with low fuel, P0171 system too lean bank 1, P0174 system too lean bank 2.

I had the same codes a couple of months ago, and they were due to a large tear in my upper intake boot. Yesterday I inspected the upper and lower intake boots, and both appear to be in good shape. However on the small F connector that attaches to the top of the upper intake boot, the small hose has a hole, which I patched with some electrical tape. If I recall correctly, that small hose goes to the fuel tank. Could that be an area of concern? I will be replacing my pre and post cat o2 sensors over my break, but could those codes be as a result of faulty o2 sensors? Any help would be appreciated.

It should not be an O2 sensor because it is reading too lean. That means the sensor itself is functioning correctly to let the DME know its too lean.

Did you reset the light after the electrical tape? Did the codes go away?

Update: upon removing my CAI and upper intake boot, I found a moderate sized hole in the lower intake boot.

Yep. Usually recommended to replace both at the same time.

Just did this yesterday on my ZHP. Intake boot had a huge hole in it. Funny you said you tried electrical tape...I did the exact same thing while the new one was in-transit Lol

Luckily, I'm fortunate in the sense that my parents allow me to use their cars, therefore the 330 will be parked until the part arrives. Until then, I'll enjoy the f30 328i :-)
