    I believe that may be part of it. But also based on your search history as well.

    We spend an entire week talking about Google searches in one of my classes and I still think its insane how their algorithms work.

    Yes. If you use any of the google services Google+, Gmail, etc. as long as you are logged in it uses your search results to help with search results returned. When you do a Google search you can click the gear icon in the upper right, go to search settings then all the way at the bottom you'll see search history.
