Charlie did bring up a good point via text... Splicing in the socket may be easy for him (does electrical work and took point on my install) and me (know how to and have done it in the past), but keep in mind that soldering is involved if you want to do it right. So, if you want to do it, consider this before starting. Taps can work, but soldering is better as it's a more reliable connection.
BTW - Coffee would never see the inside of my car. Gross...
I do now have a solution for the beverage problem, however. Charlie recommended the Ultimate Cupholder (http://www.ultimatecupholders.com) that he's been using in his M3 for a few years. Looking at it, I think this would be the perfect solution to my Cupholder problem, so I'm going to order two, one for me and the other for the passenger, so I can restore full cupholder functionality and make it better in the process!
