Tabs behind ashtray in lower container - what are they for?

Odd question; I'm trying to figure out what purpose the tabs behind the ashtray serve:



These are on a hinge, and with the ashtray in cause the door that folds over the ashtray/lighter plug to sit at a slightly more forward angle than it would if this/the tabs weren't there.

I lay my phone down in this area, and the door sitting forward pushes my phone more upright than it would if this mechanism wasn't there -- I'd rather get rid of them if they don't serve a purpose.

Do they have some purpose in how the door stays closed/push open functionality? I don't see what this is for...

That's how you remove the ashtray when it's full of ashes. Open the door, now push the door open farther and it ejects the ash tray.

Does anyone actually use this ? I couldn't fathom smoking in a car let alone leaving ashes in there to rot and make sure the alcantara smells like nicotine. lol

What's Alcantara? Why would the smell stay in with your top down? Questions leather vert owners ask. But no, couldn't imagine smoking in my car.

It's staggering how many people who buy nice cars smoke in them. In fact, I see tons of car enthusiasts in general in my area that have really nice cars and do really nice things to them, yet I still see a cigarette in their hands while they're driving.
