    DISA Repair Kit

There is no way your f connect will come out that easy. I'd leave it in. Like shown in the DIY above

My point was just that it's a very complex problem and I question whether anyone other than BMW has enough data to second guess what they determined to be the optimum pressure.
BMW tried to have a very efficient global engine with specific high output for it's design.

In Automotive engineering an engine puts out less pollutants with complete combustion. Any engine will burn cleaner and have better fuel economy with higher engine temps. BMW incorporated a MAP Thermostat system where the DME is in control of the engine temps by the way of the electric thermostat.
with engine temps temps being able to get as high as 230ºF on the M54 engineers raised the boiling point. they did this with...yep you guessed it....higher cooling system pressure. the lower pressure caps are also lowering the coolant boiling point.

My twin turbo 300ZX's also gain MPG with higher temps, Nissan made them so they run at 185ºF, bumping it to 200ºF I gained 2.5mpg average. but just for testing and not getting on boost.
