    Engine Replacement

Just a reminder to have less than 2/3 tank (less than 1/2 is preferable) of fuel, and general safety precautions (disconnect battery, discharge static electricity, and I like to have a fire extinguisher handy).
Ya the old one was still in good condition. Nice and soft.

Out with old. (The old pump was an aftermarket purchased 6 years ago from BAV Auto)

In with the new. (VDO purchased from FCP.)

I replaced the fuel filter/regulator and all three rubber hoses and hose clamps. It was the original filter with 199k miles.

Primed the pump and the car runs as it should and the driver side of the gas tank is now empty as it should be when the tank is below half full.

I used the gauge cluster fuel level test to monitor the levels.

0 Liters in the driver side and 19.0 Liters in the passenger side.

I then had to shower before I ate dinner because my hands and arms were covered in gasoline.

Nice! Amazing the fuel filter was original, and with 199k miles on it.

That’s what I’m thinking. The gas that came out of it was clear so the filter hadn’t failed yet. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they had it replaced at the dealership because it had the BMW logo and the BMW hose clamps.

If the fuel came out of it was clear then it's definitely been changed before. My car had an original fuel filter from when the car was new - mfg date was 1 month before the mfg date for the car - and at 97k miles it poured out black fuel.
