    Engine Replacement

This is the kit I'm getting off eBay. You just tell them if you need standard or over sized position heads, and what color main bearings you need when you order it. The only thing you have to order separate are the connecting rod bolts.

This guys videos have been an amazing help! He is using the same kit and rebuilding his 3.0

This guy has some helpful videos too on tearing down your engine.

Both channels have some pretty awesome DIY videos.

The block will be here tomorrow then it will be off to the machine shop with it and the head. I'm probably going to have my valve seats and valves ground while it's there. The new piston heads and old rods will be balanced and so will the crankshaft.

I haven't heard of them. I'll have to check em out.

We have a local shop that does great work. They quoted me as follows:

    Cylinder Honing: $53
    Head Cleaning: $15.25
    Removing broken exhaust stud: $30
    Grind valve seats: $90
    Grind valves: $40
Balance crankshaft, rods, and pistons: $190

I think those prices are pretty reasonable. Plus it's right down the road so I can drop off the parts and don't have to ship them.

Are you going to have them deck the block and head?

Just honing the cylinders will not put them back to round and untapered.

Some good stuff in the video series.

I'm going to have them look at everything but the head isn't warped so it won't need decked. The cylinders look like they are in great shape. Better than my old block. I'm going to have them check the cylinders and if they are within specs they will just need honed and not bored. I may just have them bore the cylinders .5mm bigger to be safe and go with oversized pistons but we will see what they say when I take the block to them.

Must admit that this is cool to read about. It has been over ten years since I had an engine rebuilt.

I want to do one now.....
