    Thinking of selling my ZHP... What is it worth?

    Hi everyone, I am thinking of selling my beloved ZHP. The family has expanded enough now that I need a larger sedan. I've been looking at F10 M sports, which seems to be the closest thing I can find to a ZHP that is slightly larger...

    Anyhow, the car has 151k miles and is basically in mint condition both in how it drives, the interior and exterior. That's not an exaggeration, anything worn has been replaced, always with OEM parts, by a BMW specialty repair shop in Boston over the last 5 years I've owned it.

    I don't even know how to sell this really. It must go to someone who will love it as much as I did, and who will truly appreciate what a magnificent car this is. Truly a car meant to be enjoyed by an enthusiast. I don't need to sell it, but I fear I just won't drive it anymore, and my garage only holds 2 cars (care has always been garaged)...Theonly other thing to mention is that the car has been in a minor front end collision. No frame damage, got a new hood, headlights, cooling system, bumper and misc parts out of it. I have Liberty Mutual's BMW Performance insurance, so all were replaced with OEM parts by the best repair shop in Boston. Accident was about 1.5 years ago, and car drives exactly the same as it did before.

    If anyone could help offer opinions on what the right price to ask for it, plus the best way to do so (besides our classified section here), I'd be grateful.

    Cold Weather Package
    Xenon headlights
    Black leather interior (not alcantra)

    Noteable updates:

    Dinan Stage 3 (minus suspension which I think is too stiff--replaced with ZHP stock):
    Dinan exhaust, stage III engine software, throttle body, front strut brace, cold-air intake, floor mats

    Diffsonline 3.73 Limited Slip Differential (OEM BMW Motorsports)

    - BMW Performance SSK
    - OEM Euro autofold mirrors (they work, bought brand new ones and had programmed properly!) with OEM European aspherical mirror glass
    - OEM clears (front + rear + side)
    - OEM Nav (updated with 2014 maps and latest MKIV software) with reverse camera (which is fabulous)
    - OEM AL Xenon headlights (replaced 1 year ago)
    - OEM Bluetooth TCU (latest)
    - OEM Aux (currently connected to an AirEnabler for wireless music streaming via iOS devices)
    - OEM 6 speed shift knob illuminated
    - replaced all 4 OEM #135 wheels 2 years ago with brand new ones. Running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, 1 season on them
    - Winter wheels = OEM #119 (17x8) with new Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme performance snows
    - OEM M door sills
    - OEM first aid kits under both front seats
    - added full size spare on 17" steel wheel
    - swapped steering wheel to tri-stitched perforated leather wheel (m3)
    - Has had all recalls, including rear taillight, and passenger airbag
    - had a blown speaker last year, so I put in the Bavarian Soundworks speakers to replace the blown HK ones (connected to stock equipment). The sub remains the original HK subs
    - Replaced the rearview mirror with one from a 2012 e90 (compass mirror, garage door opener, auto-dim)

    I have a book 3" thick with receipts... you name it' it's been replaced with OEM parts--water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, suspension, brakes, all the plastic trim pieces in the interior that had chipped or cracked...

    Like I said, the car is mint... Actually, the drivers seat leather is a bit worn from me sitting on it all day. Not ripped, always conditioned, still excellent shape, just not "mint."

    A lot of people may know the AutoTrader name and Cars.com.

    I'd post on well recognized forums and get a really nice ad with lots of pictures. If you want to post a picture of the damage that would be great too. What you want to do if you don't want your time wasted is to give enough information to weed out cold contact hits and keep the attention of a hot buyer with your knowledgeable experience. With a good template for forums, you could translate that to Craigslist and other buy and sell websites. Most Craigslist ads are crappy so having one formatted to show linked pictures will be of great asset.

    I can tell you my 2003 6MT with 180K miles sold to insurance for around $12K USD when it was deemed a write-off exactly a year ago. I had the receipts and records to prove how well the vehicle was maintained so I got a settlement equal to that of a semi stock, well maintained/zero issues ZHP within my locale. Your locale might be different so take that into account. I think that with amazing pictures that you have shown here, your mileage, and your mods/additions, you can start at $16-18K. With your records and proven car enthusiast background a prospective buyer should have no trouble trusting you over thinking it's all BS. My prices are only based on what I know from a year ago. I haven't been in the market for a ZHP so resale value must have changed.

    Have you driven any of the F10 M-sports? I was just given the keys to an F10 ///M equipped with 16.1" carbon cermanic brakes and boy was it a quick bugger with that turbo. The handling did feel like it was a bigger vehicle even with everything set on Sport +. Steering felt amazingly stiff...much stiffer than my ZHP and E46 M3 when set on Sport + as well. It's definitely a ride quality I could handle being a daily driver but for performance I don't think the F10 ///M has the same "sports" prestige as the E39 M5. There's a ton technology in the F10 which blew me away in how it's passive road safety can be an investment to you, your passenger's, and bystander's well being.

    I think with a non-///M F10, there's no doubt the power will be there. You'll just have to get used to a heavier vehicle and slight delay in it's handling reactions compared to a smaller/lighter E46. The adaptable suspension, steering, and throttle response are nice to have though and will give the driver confidence. Keep us up to date on this sale and your F10 search!

    Hi, thanks for the thoughtful response, much appreciated. I haven't driven a F10 MT M sport, but I have driven a F10 MT sports package (also RWD) and loved it. My wife has a 2011 X5 and the car felt very familiar inside.

    For what it's worth guys/gals, I have seen Steve's car in person several times and can say that what Steve has posted is not an exaggeration. I mean his car is that nice! I hate to see it go to be honest... if you do sell Steve you will regret it. Anyway best of luck my friend!

    Steve, My car had about the same mileage on it when it was declared a total loss. They gave me $9,500. Now yours has an accident which is super unfortunate because the car is fantastic. All the modifications are tasteful and useful, I would tally up all the receipts for anything that's not "regular maintenance" and take 55% and add it to your total. There is an ass for every seat and someone who wants this car will pay what you're asking.

    I think you could ask $13.5 and haggle down to the $11k-12.5k range. It is a great looking car and the stack of receipts should help prove the love and dedication you put into the car. Good luck with the sale, Steve!

    If the specialty shop you mention is Boston Motor Werks, then I can totally attest to the quality of their work. That's where I had my suspension work done two years ago.

    I do have to agree with Charlie - you will probably regret selling it!

    Thanks Charlie... No real reason to sell it other than I have no place to put / keep it (and I already have 3 cars)...

    Thanks--makes a lot of sense. Dinan + LSD are a huge bonus for the right person obviously. And the other 99% of the world will have no idea what it's for...

    Offer it for sale to a shop that takes care of you car. They may also know a buyer for your car that would understand it's customization.
