I've seen it done (actually helped do it). Not sure how long-term a solution it is.
From what I've read, this appears to be a common issue with the M Tech bumper. Have any of you replaced the brackets? How difficult is it to remove the plastic cover & bumper in order to get back there to take a good look?

It's actually really easy to pull the bumper off. Just remove the screws in the fender splash guards that attach to it, disconnect the fog lights, and get a long extension to get to the two bigass torx bolts that go up from the bottom. I didn't have a big enough torx bit, but used a hex bit that fit well enough. Just had to work the bit out of the bolts after it inevitably got stuck.
