Links to photos that give you inspiration or awe - NO CARS

When I run across a picture on the web that catches my eye I bookmark it and name the bookmark with a few keywords and what it is I liked; composition, technique, subject, etc.

I don't consider it polite to grab images off the web and re-post, even if you do give a link and / or credit so let's stick to a format of a brief description and a link.

I'll start with Thierry Legault who uses some mathematical calculations and a computer controlled telescope with a Canon 5D attached to catch a picture of the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station passing in front of the Sun:

There are a handful or photographers I admire extremely and I'll share them slowly.

    Here is one of them:

    Julian De La Rosa III

The man is incredible with landscapes.

I have one photographer that I admire the most.

Hubble Space Telescope - In particular the Ultra Deep Field image

http://youtu.be/oAVjF_7ensg (if you have never heard of the Ultra Deep Field)

I really have no idea what I am doing

I'm not Casey, but can say that Gursky is a world-famous photographer. His work can be seen in some of the most prominent art galleries/museums in the world. He signed the back of the Rhein II picture.

Here is a little information Rhein II: http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/l...jectID=5496716

In particular, read the lot notes.

Mark told you exactly what I would have told you. 1. It is a Gursky. 2. It is signed. 3. It is the only one of its type in the world 4. It was shot on (I am assuming) medium, or large format film and there are a ton of details in the original that are not easily seen in the scaled down/downgraded digital version.
    5. The art market is on a downswing as is the Euro and investors are putting more faith in the value of the art than the value of the Euro.

I don't get it either. Most Ansel Adams don't fetch that much. Besides, for roughly the same money I could get two basketballs in a fish tank:
