    Window woes

About 6-8 months ago my driver's window started making the death crack while running up and down, so I ordered a new regulator and put the fix on my to-do list. As often happens, I didn't get to it very quickly, so time passed, during which I almost never used the window.

Last weekend I finally got around to installing the new regulator- but the window isn't working. It seems to be sticking, I assume from all that time not being used? Down will sometimes work, but up nearly always needs a lot of help. I tried cleaning out the window tracks, lubricating, even tracked down some gummi pfledge based on threads on several other forums I've run across.

    No luck.

Had anyone had a similar problem? Should I try to tear the door down further for cleaning? Is it likely my motor is going bad and it's not lubrication at all? Am I missing something else??

I have never installed a new regulator on an E46, but I have on several Toyotas. I suppose it is a similar process whereby you have to be sure the windows is in the track and moves freely up and down. There must be some things you can adjust in there. Sorry I am no help. I reckon you might need to get back in there and redo some of the steps of check for loose or forgotten screws.

Could the window be cockeyed in there?

Put power directly to the motor and see if it works.

Majority of the time a new Regulator comes without the motor. So you have to use the old motor and install it in the new Regulator.

I would take it apart and test the motor. It could be stuck from not being used for a while or just going bad

Did not know that! I have purchased and changed regulators and for me that meant motor too.
