I just got my specs sheet for my car through kundenbetreuung@bmw.de and most things make sense.

I do have a question or 2 for the gurus out there.

    Power: 141. Are you kidding?
    Transmission: HECK. What is that?

    Options
823 HOT CLIMATE VERSION. I found several answers after a bit of googling, from different knock sensing (due to use of lower octane in hot countries), to a larger radiator, and a different blower and compressor in the HVAC. Do you guys have this too? Car was sent to Florida originally.

Oli, heck is likely rear-wheel drive. Heck means rear in German.

    Code 823 is:

    S823A TROPICAL VERSION
    S823A HOT COUNTRY MODEL

Not sure what that means. I could see an upgraded radiator or cooling parts.

Yeah, I got the "hot climate" version as well; I wonder if all US-spec 3'rs did, since we're probably warmer, in general, than Germany?

Yep, I wonder if all US cars, because they have AC as default, also have this hot climate option. Unless, it is only the ones that were in the southern parts of the US. I also read that this option may have slightly lowered HP!

Likely not since we don't ski much in Fl or Tx.

Hot country refers to a coding option for the IHKA (HVAC computer) that sends more air to the center vents to provide the most a/c cooling. The coding option for hot country is to set it to "normal" so I would assume it's pretty common. See this PDF about halfway down (page 4) under "Heating/Air Conditioning/Ventilation"

141 is the Metric horsepower rating. The ZHP has 170.

Thanks Marc. I added one for faux leather.

Awesome find MrMaico: IHKA programming enhanced to produce more cooling output when selected to “hot country”. (Footwell and defrost vents closed to allow more center vent air for maximum cold air.)

That's my hot climate option! Cool beans (literally).
