    RAM Mount - X-Grip

Today, I received my RAM X-Grip mount from RAM Mounts. This is the exact product from their website:
    http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-102-UN10U

The mount I purchased is the version designed for larger phones. It is the only adjustable mount I found that mounts to my Bimmian metal mount that I have installed in my car. The Bimmian phone holder is way too small for today's smartphones, so I had to find a new holder to mount on the Bimmian metal.
This is the metal mount I had to work with:

The product packaging looked like something that came from China, honestly. The mount is made in the USA though despite the cheap packaging, so I expected excellent quality.

Package contents include the mount, a rubber tether, some screws and nuts, and documentation.

I am happy to report that the holes on the mount base line up with the holes on the Bimmian mount, though I did have to rotate the base to line them up. I used the supplied screws and nuts to screw down the holder to the mount.

The whole setup is very secure. There is a somewhat long extension arm with a ball-and-socket configuration, which allows it to be adjusted any way you want to. You can extend the reach of the mount or position it close to the base if you prefer. As a result of its various configurations, you can choose to mount it closer, farther, higher, or lower than where the mount is.

So far, the mount seems very sturdy. The nature of having a mount like this is some extremely minor vibration of the phone, but this can't be avoided no matter the mount, so I can safely say this is as good as it's gonna get for a mount of this type. I barely even noticed the vibrations, which I'm sure are mainly caused by my car being stiffer and lower than a standard car.

Overall I'm happy with the mount. The arm is a bit long for my taste, but the adjustability minimizes the size issue.

Unfortunately, the mount is very expensive and the shipping charge was quite high ($17 to ship with the cheapest option).

I will update this post with any further observations I come across.

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

Cool, thanks for the photos and the write up. What phone are you using that warrants such a large mount?

LG V10, though my previous phone probably wouldn't fit in the smaller version either, which is only a 5.2". The Bimmian mounts are hilarious small considering a lot of smartphones are now around the 5.2"+ category.
