Agreed. And yeah, I thought hydrolocking usually translated to bent valve stems, broken pistons, and other significant internal issues. If it runs and sounds normal, that's a good sign!

What the hell is this pipe? It's connected to the alternator. Never seen this shit before.

I would have thought for sure a hydrolocked engine would be toast, but you drove it, so... Perhaps a revival is doable!

Maybe. If getting the water out doesn't remove the ticking then I'll probably need to do some head work. Shouldn't be too bad. Never done it before so I'd be excited.

That pipe is an alternator cooling duct.

    That oil looks yucky.

Yeah I know (that oil looks yucky, not about cooling duct). I'm hoping just new oil will get rid of the loud ticking. I don't think any valves are bent because when I revved the engine last night it got quieter, not louder, as I would expect it to.

    Hopefully.

Dario, dump the old oil and fill her up with some fresh cheapo oil from the parts store. Do a quick compression test and post the results! If it's running good, run it for 200 or so miles and send off a sample of the oil to Blackstone.

Just got her up to operating temperature with new oil. Seems to run fine, save for the fact that the valve train seems really noisy. Could also be a noisy vanos, or maybe bad oil fucks with the vanos. At any rate, I'm hoping it quiets down and that's the end of it.

I can't drive the car on the roads lol. Too many cops for me to risk no papers.

Might go focus on other things now, and heat cycle the car a few times for the next few days and try to get as much as I can out, then dump the oil while it's warm. Then gonna fill her up again and do a tank or two of driving before doing a third oil change.
