Trans and Diff fluid changes doityourself

Having no service history on my car, and now that all lights are out on the dash (airbag, SES) I'm moving towards additional maintenance.

    I read this thread:

    http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showt...smission+Fluid

There is no DIY however, nor was the question finally answered on our 6 speed manual transmissions. What is the capacity?

Is Redline the way to go? Something else spectacular on the market now?

It's almost spring time so I'd like to get this maintenance done and enjoy the car.

    Thanks guys!

    2 quarts Redline or Pentosine.

Remove fill plug first, then drain fluid. Install drain plug and fill until it comes out of fill plug hole.

Any pics of the plugs? Obvious, not like the motor for coolant?

And only 2 qts? I saw 7 mentioned in that thread I posted a link to? Not questioning ya, just want to be sure before I order

If there are no pics of this, when I do mine I'll be sure to get some.

And then the diff. Redline as well? I'm at 141k and I'm almost certain neither have been done.

    1.6L trans (manual)
    1.0 diff

The key is to have some sort of fluid xfer pump. I have the stainless pump from Bavauto (p/n: FP500) but it makes a mess due to leakage from the hose.

Better is a hand pump that attaches to the oil bottle's threads. Got one of those on amazon where a reviewer had mentioned it fits the Redline bottles, which it most certainly does not.

If anyone knows of a pump which fits the threads on a Redline bottle, do tell. Maybe Redline sells one?

I used Royal Purple gear oil in the diff and Redline MTL in the manual gearbox.

2 new seal rings for drain and fill plugs on diff.

Bavauto and or BMPDesign should have DIY's for both.

I'd also order up some drain plugs. The metal plugs from the factory are damn soft and easy to strip. Mine were cooked by the second change.

    +1

When I changed out mine it made me a little nervous trying to torque the old ones back down. In the end I didn't use the wrench (not sure its calibrated correctly) and tightened them as comfortable as I felt. I've been keeping an eye on them so far so good.

When I do another fluid replacement ill def be getting new plugs for sure!
