Dirt accumulating forward of grilles

2006 coupe. I've been out driving in rain and drizzle in recent days and see muddy dirt accumulating on the center of the front bumper ahead of the grilles. I have an aftermarket (Bimmian) grille set which does not quite match the OEM in that flexible flanges at the top rears of the grilles are not present.

So I'm posting to ask if this kind of dirt accumulation is common to our cars or if it might be related to the presence of the aftermarket product.
