    Shadowline Detailing

In preparing to attempt paint correction/detailing for the first time on my car, I am a little confused as to what I should do with the shadowline trim. I think I have 2 questions to start:

1.) I believe I read somewhere on this forum that a claybar (or nanoskin) will remove the oil/water mixture look that seems to appear on a lot of cars. Is this true, and would it need to be polished or sealed afterward?

2.) On the upper part of the driver's door trim, the shadowline trim looks "dull." I imagine it is from years of someone putting their hand there to close the door. Is polish safe to fix the dullness, or will it even help?

FWIW: I plan to use Meguiar's 105 and 205 with the LC cyan and tangerine for the car.

That's a good question about the clay bar. If it were actually spring outside and not snowing, I would give it a shot for us when I got off work...

Guess I'll just have to wait to see if someone else has to answer. I hate that oily stuff too..

Just did this the last weekend:

    1) Taped off the areas around the trim with some blue painters tape, 6 inches on either side

    2) Used my PC 7424 DA polisher with a 3 inch orange pad lightly primed the pad with Meguiars M105. Be careful not to oversaturate the pad as it will sling ALL over the place. (Found that M205 wasn't quite powerful enough for this as that anodized aluminum is VERY hard)

    3) Lightly buff small 10-12" section at a time until desired shine was achieved, then wipe off with micro-fiber towel.

    4) Sealant with quality sealant/wax.

    Worked like a champ!!

^ Looks good! I'll try the nanoskin and then polish followed by sealant and report back.

I had great results with just using the clay bar, not quite the show quality type of results that fw_fw got, but it removed all of the oxidation and water spots and brought back the shine. And it only took me like 10 mins to do both sides
