swapped out to an M3 mirror, converted it to be able to output the auto dim signal and then made a retrofit harness to run signal to both side mirrors where I installed e90 auto dim glass.
    .

it took some trial and error trying to figure out the signal of the 4 wires on the e90 glass. WDS wasnt helpful and e90 forums had the wrong wiring marked. I toasted the driver side glass because of tha bad information so ended up whipping out the multi meter as well as coming across a youtube video of an E46 M3 guy back in 2011 who did it as well on stock M3 mirrors but didnt speak english but did find some wiring call outs in the comment section that was helpful.

have a new driver side glass replacement on the way but for now mine still works just has some burned marks when dimmed.

the auto dimming is very welcome. im always being blinded by someone behind me and its so annoying. even with the BLUE e46 glass, it didnt help and I had to hold my hand over the glass to block light. now that doesnt happen.

I was pretty happy with this wiring job. I made all wiring independent so its completely reversible and each piece has its own harness. driver side and passenger side mirrors have their own harness which terminate in the door with the stock ribbin cable harness then a new harness goes from there through the door (I hijacked 2 empty pins in the door harness plug and used that for a factory fit and finish) I ran the harness up each pillar and into the headliner and the new output lead from the M3 mirror has its own plug which splits out into 2 plugs for a Y connection to each side.

this is why i go the junk yard to harvest stock connectors and wiring plugs/pins . it helps to have it all on hand.

Thanks man. I just wanted a project to tackle over the Christmas weekend since I don't have my son this year so I don't have much to do.

I know mods like this are very very ridiculous and usually unnecessary lol. I guess I just like doing things just to do them. German ricer?? Is that the equivalent to kraut?

Not ricer to me. Although I consider auto dimming mirrors to be a somewhat cosmetic enhancement, it’s not race-inspired

Dude this honestly might be my favorite thing that you've done to this car. It hits all the marks for a great project.
