Are you saying that the battery should be plugged: sealed?
That it should not be connected to the hose?

Edit- yes, I see those holes but the hose is a larger diameter than that

I've never connected the vent tube to any of the batteries I've put in my car and never had an issue.

I don't think I was ever able to, actually. Incompatibility or something.

    It caused issues, for me.

Turned all my hair grey. It's messed up. My lawsuit against BMW NA was dismissed. Now, instead of spending my money on vodka and strippers, I have to spend it on Just for Men.

Well, that turned out to be a time-consuming mess.

Because of the 2006-year problem, Autozone had sold me the wrong battery, an H6-DLG, for a 2006-year car. Autozone shows the H7 version for 2005: a battery that's over an inch longer and fits the compartment properly. It also costs $40.00 more.

The vent tube: an L-connector between hose and battery was missing.
The electrical connector: I have no idea what that is. Does anyone here know? (it's in the photos)

Autozone was great about everything, IMHO. They completely accepted the model-year issue as valid. They ate the $40.00 cost difference as a price match, and treated the transaction as a return and sale, thus restarting my warranty today. They had someone drive over to a nearby battery wholesaler to get an L-connector that fit.

Of course it took almost two hours for all this to get sorted out, and three people scurrying around on my behalf, but we're AOK.

Thanks to everyone here for their input.

If it were me (and it was) and I had a battery venting acid vapors into the passenger compartment, I'd be sure to get that fixed.

As you found out, there is a transition piece to allow connecting the hose to the battery's vent hole. Glad you got it sorted.
I believe that electrical connector is used while the car is in transit - it's been mentioned numerous times, but I wasn't fully paying attention!

I'll accept that answer, LOL, and tuck the damned thing away.

    Thanks!

Yes, the electrical connector is indeed something only used when there were shipping the vehicle. Not needed.

Just installed an H7 from Wally world. Fit perfect had to buy a 90-degree fitting from Oreilly and hook up vent hose. Reset clock that was it.

Just replaced my battery as well.

As some of you know, I live about 10 miles from the Deka/East Penn Manufacturing plant. They make batteries under a dozen different labels and have a factory store that sells non-branded plain case batteries. $139 for a Group 49 AGM with full warranty. Guy even did a carbon load test on it before I lugged it out to ensure it was Ok, it was producing 49 more cranking amps than rated.

Forgot to pull my vent L off the core. I bought this for $5 and it fits perfectly:
