    Engine oil change

So I know there is probably a thread out there about this, but I could not find one.

I am going to change my oil for the first time since I bought the car and have decided to go with BMW oil. I plan on purchasing from ECS. My questions are: does a magnetic drain plug relay help, and is the Mann filter better than OEM?

I am interested in hearing feedback on those of you who have a magnetic drain plug and if you have actually found that it is catching small or large(hopefully not too bit) prices of metal at oil change.

    Thanks

I've heard terrible things from too many sources about the ECS magnetic oil drain plug. DO NOT GET IT. If you can find a different one, why not get it. But this one falls apart.

Mann are fine. Just don't go too long on any paper filter (5-8k seems to be the recommended sweet spot).

Yea I usually try to stick to 6k. I haven't changed my oil yet and the sticker mileage on the window is coming up. I wanted to get it done before I put a few hundred highway miles on it next weekend, but might not make it in time

I got my magnetic plug from TMS, but haven't had to change the oil again since I purchased it so I won't know if it falls apart until then.

Bumping this post- thanks to posters! I had been under the impression the oil had to be removed with a pump: this looks easy. Sticky?
