Replaced my Oil filter housing gasket and now,

I got tired of smelling oil while driving my car so I changed the Oil Filter Housing gasket this morning. That was definitely a source of leakage. Now with everything buttoned back up my car has a terrible idle. I thought that maybe because I had the battery disconnected for a while that the electronics need to find itself again. I put about 10 miles on it today and its a little better but not good and before I started this project it was fine. I seems to run normally other than that and pulls fine at low rpms but the idle stinks. No good deed goes unpunished. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. Possibly I just have to give it a little more time.

After disconnecting the battery, give it 40-50 miles to relearn itself. It that doesn't fix it, perhaps you dislodged an air intake boot or the little F connector vacuum lines when you were messing around with the OFH stand gasket.

Thanks maybe I'm being a little too impatient. I did check for vacuum and intake leaks. I didn't see any thing.

For checking vacuum leaks, crank the car up and spray some carburetor cleaner around the joints of vacuum lines and air intake boots. If you get a sudden surge in idle speed, then that's where your leak is.

Thanks again Bruce. Right now it seems to be getting better each time I drive. I was chasing a lean condition for a while, so all the intake boots, F connector and CCV were replaced and the condition finally went away for good when I changed the fuel pump. I am going to drive it for a few days and see what happens. If I'm still having problems then I'll go to the next step you describe.

Here is the follow up to my post yesterday. After driving for a while I had the SES light come on so I knew I had an actual problem. I came home and checked the codes, they were P0171 and P0174. I am very familiar with these and now it was certain that I have an air leak somewhere. When I work on things and find a new problem I always go back to where I was working figuring the issue has to be in that area. That strategy paid off. As I was wrestling the oil filter housing back in place I must have moved the hose from the valve cover to the crankcase ventilation separator. It was disconnected from the separator. I managed to get my hands in there and hook it back up. Now it runs fine. Maybe I didn't have that hose well seated when I put it on over a year ago. You gotta love ZHPMafia. I get frustrated with a car issue, post something and people actually answer you. How can you beat that?
