    If I'm careful to get the jack centered on the central front jack, I'm assuming I can lift the entire front up and then slip in stands on either side where there are pads?

    Once lowered onto the stands, is it best to just leave the jack right up against the center jacking point as backup?

    Yep this is what I do but I don't leave the jack under the car once it's on the stands since 90% of the time, the jack would be in the way.

    Then you can still fit the jack under the rear to get to the diff carrier, lift from there, and add two more jack stands to the rear pads. Car is up and secure.
