Hi, I'm a new member from Washington, just got the car a week ago! It's a 2003 with 154k miles Mystic Blue with Gray interior (Manual Trans)! The car had only 2 owners, the last owner owned it from 2005-2017

I'm restoring the car mechanically and also its' paint condition slowly, as it is my daily drive

    Mechanical:
The cooling system needs to be overhauled, front brakes and front tires need to be replaced, fluids need to be flushed out, then I want to refresh the suspension system (I enjoy cornering the most while driving!) Koni FSD, anyone?

The car isn't idling nicely on a hot day, especially the more AC I blast. Is this usually caused by the DISA valve due for rebuild? I read a few suggestions on this on some other e46 forums. The car has several DISA valve and VANOS rebuilt/replaced for a few times during its' lifetime.

    Paint Condition:
Paint has some several unidentified black stuffs sticking on the paint
I'm taking it off slowly with Goo Gone and then try to buff it out since the paint is in a heavily swirled condition.

I'll post more pictures once the car is done polished! Gonna take a while though

Welcome! Be careful with GooGone though, it can do a real number. I've corrected some really bad paint, so PM me if you have any questions or anything.

    Welcome!

For the DISA valve, no matter how many times you put in a OEM DISA, it will fail after a few years due to a design flaw. A more permanent fix is to rebuild it using the GAS kit.

Rebuild the VANOS using the Besian systems kit.

Oh and BMWcurves has an awesome suspension refresh thread - check it out if you are looking for part numbers etc.

Not sure I would blame the disa valve on the idle if it's already been replaced but it's not too difficult to check. My car still has the original one to my knowledge. Could try pulling some codes, looking at fuel trims, etc. to see if anything stands out. I also don't know if Goo gone is safe for clear coat.
