    I think 80k out of it is pretty good...

    I checked out DR Vanos web site and it's only warrantied for a year.
    I have my VANOS completely disassembled and I don't think the rattle is due to the bearing rings. they checked out ok. I think it's just worn out. The bores are extremely worn and there is a huge lip like you'd see in an engine with worn cylinders. The O-rings are still pliable but everything is worn out. This isn't my original VANOS, it's the one from DR Vanos so who knows how many miles are on it.
    In hindsight, I wish I went the Beisan. Even though it would have 143K on it by now, at least I'd know it was my original...

    Hmm...one year is pretty short. That's pretty disappointing. For those who want to keep their units, it also looks like they offer a service to send in your own unit for a rebuild.
