    Interesting discovery... input appreciated...

So, I was under my car and noticed the aluminum plate under my car was scratched and somewhat dented. Since this is my garage queen, I ordered part number 51717028893 (Front Protective Skid Plate) which looked like it (thankfully, I got it on clearance from RM European for $600 less than everybody else)--note that the part is guaranteed to fit my 330i by all websites. Well, it came in, and the first thing I noticed was that this plate is solid steel and pretty heavy. Then I go to replace it, and I notice it ain't nearly the same part real quick--"WTF", I say. Well, upon further investigation, I realize the part I wanted to replace is actually 51717028433 (Front Subframe Brace). But now I wonder where the hell is this part I just ordered on my car? I found holes that line up with the holes in the plate, so it looks like it's supposed to go up right behind the aluminum "Front Subframe Brace"--NOT just behind the bumper as seemingly indicated by Real OEM. My questions:

    1) What do people think of the fact this plate is apparently missing from my 2004 330i ZHP?

    2) Real OEM seems to indicate the fasteners required to install the skid plate are 2ea of PN 51711909942 (Blind Rivet Nut, Flat Headed) and 2ea of PN 31101096987 (Hex Bolt with Washer, M10x55), but that seems to be missing 2 sets of fasteners. What the hell am I really supposed to use to fasten this plate to my car?!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Front aggregate protective plates are optional items, used to protect the oil pan, and other low bits. Here's the one for the E28:

That's a part that went on the rough road 330xi's. It'll fit, but you definitely don't need it unless you're rally racing.

Thanks, guys--that's $355 down the drain. I definitely don't want to throw an uneeded 20 pounds on my car. I wonder, though, if it would add any rigidity?

Pass it on to a "stancer" who needs the protection.
