    Requesting help with adaptive xenons

Coincidentally with the installation of a 4.5-upgraded LCM I am experiencing a problem with the horizontal movement of my adapative headlights:

    • The car goes through its vertical self-adjust routine on startup just fine.
    • I am pretty sure I see some side-to-side movement when the wheel is turned, but nowhere near as much as there should be.
    • The problem persists across both my original LCM and the upgraded unit I installed a few days ago.
    • It can be cleared in PAsoft, but recurs immediately.
    • LCM screen is normal

Here's a typical AHL error message screenshot-

    Thanks in advance!

im going to take a guess that the adaptive headlights in coupes rely in the Steering angle sensor in the steering column. its possible that if you had a shop use a diagnostic tool to recalibrate the sensor then you may see those errors go away.

if you had INPA and a k Can bus cable, you could use INPA to do it for you.

do you happen to also have any DSC/brake/ABS light aka trifecta lights or just a constant DSC light?

Also have you tried changing the sensors on the control arms as well for the auto headlight control? its possible they could be bad as well. bad wiring or bad sensor etc..

It looks like it's having issues with the signal for both speed and steering angle. Likely defaults to the minimum angle when the speed is unknown, so it's moving like you're going 135mph or whatever.

This is helpful and much appreciated. I am going to be down for the count for a couple days but will explore these suggestions as soon after that as I can. Thank you!

    No to any of this.
ok, not having those lights doesnt necessarily mean you dont have an issue with the steering angle sensor, wheel speed sensors or an DSC module issue. I would check codes for your DSC module see if there is anything in there. recalibrate the steering angle sensor and then finally replace or check the sensors on your control arms. just because you dont have a light doesnt mean dont check them or discount them.

It has been very difficult for me to find anyone in my area with access to the software tools needed for resets, etc. I am meeting with someone the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and am hoping he can help me run through the areas you folks so kindly mention above. I'll report here.

    Thanks again!

I met with the new indie. A pleasure to deal with. He drives a mean 135...

He checked the lamps mechanically, reset the steering angle sensor and checked things out using ISID. So far no progress but he is researching. Says the AHL system was so new that there wasn't a lot of support for it in ISID.

if the sensors on the front control arms and connectors are ok and not damaged then the next step would be checking the motors in the headlights them selves. in sedans there is only one motor for auto leveling. for coupes i believe there are 2, one for leveling and another for movement.

You could also have internal wiring damage so you may need to pull the headlights and check the wiring. our cars have a horrible issue where the wiring inside the headlight becomes brittle and flakes off then starts arcing against other wires.

check all of the plugs going into the headlight housing, maybe unplug, clean and reseat each of them or check for bent pins.
