Bleed and bed. That should fix you up.

Yep, except the bedding procedure for the Akebono pads according to the Tire Rack is simply to drive the car normally for 400-500 miles. It'll be a couple of months before I drive that far.

A lot of aftermarket pads don't have the initial bite of the BMW OEM pads. I went through this same thing when I changed the brake fluid and installed Hawk pads... I thought for sure I screwed up the bleeding process... even took it to the dealer to have them bled... turns out that I had just lost the initial bite of the OEM pads.
Dinan CAI &Throttle body, ESS Tuning TS2, Bimmerbrakes gen3 headers, UUC SSK & DSSR. Achilles oil pump, VAC oil pan baffle
M3 Motor mounts, UUC Trans mounts, Modified clutch style LSD 3.15, TMS front subframe reinforcement, Koni Yellow sports,
H&R sport springs, UUC sway bars, BMW Perf. Rotors, UUC SS brake lines, Hawk HPS pads, CSL replica wheels,
Rotora strut bar, FXR HID conversion, M3 Mirror conversion, BSW stage 1 speakers
Yeah, the initial bite is definitely not as good, but the pedal is also really mushy and it worsens the problem.

I though my pedal felt mushy as well. I eventually got used to it. That was years ago and I'm still running the same pads and rotor. When I drove the M2 for the first time, I almost put Kristen through the windshield from the initial bite (figure of speech, she had her seatbelt on)

Yeah it shouldn't feel that mushy. I think mines fine. Sure it lost that initial bite, but i like that is pretty much linear. Although I do have SS lines as well. I didn't like the akebonos when I had them. For DD, they took awhile to warm up to temp. I always feel like I'm going to crash in the morning in the beginning of my commute lol I have the pfc z-rated now and much prefer them over the akebonos. It dusts a little more than the akebonos, but still l way less than oe.
