    URGENT HELP CAR WON'T START!

Sorry for the desperate post, but it's getting late, I have a flight to catch tomorrow, and the car is sitting in the garage refusing to start.

Backstory: car didn't start. I suspected the fuel pump, as the car had recently run dry, and the car was choking on the highway on the way back from a long drive.

    Jump to today:
I ordered a fuel pump and filter. I installed the new fuel pump, car started up immediately.
Drove it into the garage, and started working on the fuel pump, and the thermostat (also needed replacing).

Did both, now the car refuses to start. I've cranked, cranked, and cranked. No dice.

I pushed the little bleeder at the top of the engine. Fuel gushed out. The pump is pumping, the filter is filtering.
I double checked the fuel filter, it's installed correctly.

Only code on the car was a service light for the thermostat (hence replacing the thermostat).

I'm going to hook up the computer and clear the codes.

Hmm... I wonder if a crank or cam sensor is going. That would throw a code though...
Mine does something weird every once in a while as well where it would crank, start up, and immediately die. That doesn't throw codes either, so I'm not entirely certain codes are something you can rely on.

Try resetting the battery, perhaps? Disconnect for 15-30 minutes, then plug back in. This should clear any weird electrical oddities.

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

When you turn on the key, does the temp gauge peg to the right (full hot temp)? If so, it could be a faulty DME or EWS alignment issue, and can cause a crank and crank, but no start.

It did this the first time I tried starting it. Hasn't done it since.

Don't you have to remove a fuse when you do the filter to help drain all the fuel out? Did you put that fuse back in?

    Sorry to spam the forum.

I suspect it's a DME or EWS alignment issue.... Never heard of this.

Gonna have to take it to Mr. Mechanic

Hopefully if it is, it is as simple as re-aligning the two. This can be done with PA Soft if you have the plug & software, or should be able to be done by a mechanic with the software.

Happened to me on my 2004 ZHP with 75K miles when the DME randomly crapped out. Had to get a replacement DME (several actually) and align it with the EWS after the company I purchased them with had mated the used DME to the EWS and key. Then had to align them to get it to start. Otherwise it cranks and cranks but won't start - not even coughing/sputtering. Good luck and keep us posted.

I replaced the EWS unit one year ago. My symptoms were different, the car didn’t start sporadically. You could hear the crank but that was it. After several attempts, it started just fine. This happened 2-3 times per month on average.

EWS was $500 OTD. You need to show proof of ownership (DL and title or registration) to order the part.
