I didn't know there was a BMW approved (LL01) 10w/40 Castrol Syn oil. (The only LL01 Castrols I know are the Euro formula 0w-30, and the "BMW" OEM oil, which is a Castrol softec.)Originally Posted by peterbg16

As far as I know there are no 10-40 options for non-M BMWs.
From BMW:
The oils listed below meet BMW's Long-life rating and are acceptable for use in BMW Passenger vehicles and SAVs in the US market with gasoline engines.
BMW Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market:
* Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30

It was a typo. I meant to write 5w-40, but dunno what I was thinking at the time.
This is what I put in it:
I was told by a couple of well known German Performance shops in the area (SSi, RAI Motorsports) that they use this oil with their BMWs because of the local temperatures during the winter/summer. I am no guru on oils so I listened to them!

Welcome Peter! Your car looks great. I was at Chapterfest too, and had my eye out for ZHP's. Sorry I didn't see you and yours, cause I probably would have said something. I did talk to a young fellow I saw drive in in a blue ZHP. So do you live near Bowie?

Yeah I was going to put in European Formula but they were sold out at the only local place that has it, so I was looking around and picked up 5W-40 because on the actual Bottle it said "Specially Formulated To meet Needs by BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen" I had used it on my 5er and had no problems whatsoever. Like I said, it was recommended to me.

Anyway....at some point....you could get a pic of the bottle of oil that says that? No hurry....just a cell phone pic would do...or even one off the internet.
