And to all wishing me luck, its much appreciated. Obviously i love digging holes. (Read:graves). But as much as i cringe at the dollar amount, i absolutely cannot wait to button this all up and have a grin glued to my face.

Yep, it's not about the money (usually). It's the feeling of satisfaction at the end.

Digging my own grave- parts list included

Some guys on e46f have brought something to my attention.

    M3 guibo rather than oem?

Edit: are they interchangeable? Is there a benefit? (That seems like an obvious answer, but i digress)

Well after things have gone incredibly smooth and everything was all buttoned up; an issue finally arose. Leaking coolant and gas from rear right of motor. Didnt have an inspection mirror handy, but pretty positive its headgasket. Calling machine shop tomorrow. Bring on 2019!

I have no idea why everyone is reacting like this is something insane.
This is all proper preventative maintenance, and it's better to do it all at once than have some crap fail down the line.

Now you should have a super reliable, super awesome, German sports car.

    A few adds:

    steering giubo
    engine mounts
intake seal/gasket (if you are doing this job, take the intake off!)
    pulleys and belts
    shifter bearings and bushings
    MAF sensor
    intake temp sensor o-ring
heater and coolant hard lines (I guarantee the connectors are corroded and broken in the block, and they are likely eating the aluminum in the ports)
    throttle seal
    dipstick o-ring

I bought an engine, and I am doing the exact same rehab project, so I have a very exhaustive list!

I also have to do front wheel bearings. About $2,500 in parts total (including engine and 6-speed transmission). But you can't just buy another car, because every car for sale needs all these repairs.

Did you ever get the car up and running / engine fixed?

Should be wrapped up this coming week. I am hoping by Wednesday. Ended up time certing the block for good measure. Will also be reinforcing the RTAB pockets and coating the underbody in (assumed for now) POR15. After that all thats left in the immediate future is me tinkering. Longer cord for my iphone, possible resolder of a connection for one of rear map lights, bolster the wiring harness that goes through the deck lid, etc... minor OCD things.
