    Why are the flanges different?

    Because BMW hates us.

330 input flanges are different from all the other input flanges. ZHP output flanges are different from all the other E46 output flanges.

BUT the workaround is a 3.38 from an auto ZHP if you’re scared of flange swapping.

I thought auto ZHPs were 3.64, and regular AT330s have a 3.38. On a 3.38 you still have to swap output flanges, just not the input.

Maybe a stupid question, but can you move all the innards from a non-330 into the 330 pumpkin as a workaround for the input flange swap?

Well I guess I have a flaw in my own plan! I'll have to swap output flanges then - luckily they just pop right over.

As far as swapping "innards," that would be more difficult than swapping the flange. I believe you'd have to swap the pinion in order to change the ratio, which I can only imagine is more involved than just changing the pinion flange. Such a swap would also require you to really know what you're doing when checking (and potentially having to change) preload/backlash post-swap.

Touché. Really I just need to decide if I want to dump $1k into a track mod for a car I don’t plan on tracking that much longer (I’m never going club race this car, which is ultimately what I want to do).

I know in the past people have sent a full diff to the vendor and they cleaned it, installed the lsd and did a rebuild on it, and shipped it back.

i never got to the track with the Touring, but i enjoyed the hell out of the LSD. and the 335i, making another 66hp and 90ft-lbs of torque, needs one even worse.... i can spin the summer tires through 2nd gear, the winters through 3rd gear. wheelspin in 3rd gear is a little unnerving.

Ah, I thought the 800 included the diff, I didn’t know you had to source a used one/remove your current one in order to have this done
