    Lower ZHP steering wheel trim

My lower steering wheel trim in my ZHP is all scratched up and I don’t want to pay $100 for a new one. Anyone selling a good condition used lower steering wheel trim? Shipping to 35758

You could sand and paint it.

You could sand it & wrap it with Alcantara.

My plan is to sand it and wrap it with Carbon fiber, while I'm doing the wheel cover replacement

That’s what I have now. Didn’t sand it down though

    LOVE it!

So it’s ok to just wrap over the plastic? Any other tips that you have for me?

Yeah I think you’d be perfectly fine to just wrap it. In my experience the vinyl was thick enough to mask any imperfection.

It’s very easy to remove the trim and pull the buttons off to make wrapping easier. Work slowly and use a heat gun or hair dryer small sections at a time. Good luck! Post a picture of the finished product

That looks very good. The match is close enough that it wouldn't bother me.

I believe that's brushed aluminum all around.

I bought a Porter Cable 1500HG when it was on sale. A hair dryer would do fine, but I felt this heat gun was more friendly for n00bs like me as the heat is more adjustable. I used this wrap: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058DIDTY. Still have a ton left over.

I only did the lower trim. The trickiest parts were the curves for the spokes as the wrap needs to stretch a bit. Not sure if it's the correct way but I had to make a cut out on the edge of the wrap to make it easier to apply. Also the emblem can be slightly tricky. If you don't take the emblem off you have to work around and cut around the M logo. I ended up cutting slightly into the logo. Then I cut the four corners to apply around the edges of the logo. If you decide to remove the logo, then you have to figure out how to remove it and re-glue.

Looks killer! Which color carbon fiber vinyl did you use? I'm looking at anthracite. Looks like it matched up pretty well with the dash panel. Plan to do same or similar with mine.

    Thanks?

I think it's the one I linked above in post 15.
