Sometime hard getting into 1st gear?

Sometimes, after sitting at a light in neutral with clutch out, the light turns green and push the clutch in and go to shift into first and it doesn't want to. Try again and it'll slip in with force or let the clutch out a little and it'll slip in. My 85 Mustang does this occasionally, but going into reverse (way less of an issue obviously).

I did a transmission fluid change just in case with fresh BMW MTF-LT2 and it made no difference (neither for 1st gear nor in general really).

Put it in 2nd and then back into first. Always goes in after doing that.

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

    What he said.

But I usually put it in a higher gear like 5th or 6th instead of 2nd cause it slots in easier than into 2nd. On my car at least.

Ok, so I'm not the only one with this issue. That makes me feel better. Thought I was dealing with impending transmission problems...

It's old German car problems. Not specific to BMW.
As long as it's not grinding while attempting first then you should be fine.
